In its basic sense, a parachute is neither made for travel and sports, it was created to increase safety while descending from a certain altitude. It is a medium to delay the pull of gravity from earth when deployed form higher altitude.

In short, it makes the dropping of an item, a person or vertically or diagonally slower by reducing the amount of dragging while maintaining a balance so that the item would remain safe until it reaches the ground. Early physicists have made use of this principle and newer develops in parachuting technology led to the creation of various types of parachutes.

Early types of parachutes

Parasol type – Though not strictly called parachutes, the parasols were commonly used by performers in China to create a slow falling effect onstage.

Conical parachute – Possibly the earliest form of parachute is the conical shaped-parachute which appeared during 1470s in preceding the design conceptualized by Leonardo da Vinci. As an escape device, this type of parachute was intended to allow people to get safely on the ground from burning buildings. However, there are no written records whether this parachute was ever used for that purpose.

Pyramid Parachute – Another design by Leonardo da Vinci, this parachute was conceptualized in Milan during the early part of 1480. It was a canopy that is supported by light wood held by a bottom frame.

Pack-style parachute – This is the predecessor of all parachutes that are stored in casings these days.

– A basic drag device, round parachute is used in various settings like medical missions, cargo applications and military operations. While being described commonly as round in shape, the parachute actually resembles a dome or a jellyfish. This has been among the most popular type however; present-day parachutists don’t normally use this kind of parachute.

The earliest round parachutes were circulars with flat surfaces that made them unstable, thus causing a number of deaths and injuries on parachutists. To add more stability, military were made parabolic or conical in shape.

There are two types of - steerable and non-steerable. Like ram-air parachutes, non-steerable parachutes can’t be maneuvered to

The Maine Mall. Ugh. Lived in Portland for 8 years and I remember Maine Mall got a Hot Topics about 15 years after it was…well…hot. Not that I'm trashing Maine/Portland. Miss it in so MANY ways. But now I live about 3 miles from Short Hills Mall – or, sorry, I think it's “The Mall at Short Hills” (whatever)- so I get what you're saying. Filene's, frankly, should stay in the basement.

I purchase "Pro Pin" bowling balls and X-Outs from bowlingball.com due to the lower price than if "perfect". Only difference is that the drilling has to be "exotic" in order to make them have full performance on the lanes. (the pin is offset and the core is placed differently, but the coverstock is the same) Otherwise, less hook will occur with a conventional drilling.

You will save tons of money by purchasing "Pro Pins" and X-Outs.

lol@reel_aesthete – getting all the male philosophers in drag at conferences would be pretty funny.

One significant difference between drag of any sort and blacking up is that people who do drag risk violence. So it's kind of weird that the very social conditions that *might* make drag of certain sorts offensive, make doing drag risky. As far as I know, there's not a general danger of violence from white audiences for blacking up.

Otto Bock sells the umbrellas and locks with thier elevated vacuum supplies. The pin is easily found in various designs and sizes on line or in some hardware stores. It is called a “ball detent pin” if you are searching on line. You should include some 1/2″ lengths of steel tubing with an inside diameter to match the pin to reinforce the channels.

Brett Kirk for sure – I've met the man himself, and he's a really nice bloke – very humble, loves his footy – and the gesture of the handshake in the preseason (ignored by that bollockchop McLean) shows what a fair player he is.

Players like him, Goodes, Kennelly – even though I don't like the club, I have the utmost respect for the Swans for showing how AFL Stars should behave.

I hope Carlton is taking notes on how to be a good sport- fair dinkum.

As a truly devout Christian (unlike Obama) I cannot use the words that would tell you exactly how his speech makes me feel. But I will say that I am sick to death of this Muslim in the White House pandering to these people while he throws Americans, our military, our intelligence agencies, and Jews and Christians under the bus. As far as I'm concerned, he can take his whole 1 hour "New Beginnings" speech and put it where the sun don't shine.
