It sure seems like the national federations would lose their minds at the thought. How is the FA going to sell a “premier” league without their 3 or 4 best teams? It would definitely kill the appeal of the Championship and other 2nd leagues.
I don't know how they could stop them from playing since I don't know the legal structures, but they could probably do something like banning players from the national teams or something.
