Parachuting is, as they say, not for the weak-hearted. That is why it is considered as an extreme sport. While only a handful would actually try it, there are quite many enthusiasts who enjoy it just by watching skydiving shows and exhibitions. But exactly what does parachuting and skydiving entail? Where did it originate and why is up to this day?
Parachuting has been around far longer than we thought. It traces its roots back in 852 A.D., when Arman Firman, wearing a large cloak, crashed and landed after jumping from a tower in Spain. Most did not consider this as the first parachute jump ever made, since he was only wearing a cloak. While many tried to do the first jump, the first recorded jump was in 1797, when Andre Jacques Garnerin used a silk chute after jumping off a hot-air balloon.
As airplanes have become more popular, so has the parachute. During World War II, it was used by soldiers and airplane pilots during emergencies and to transport supplies and equipment in war areas.
Since then parachutes are popularly used in shows and exhibitions. Skydivers jump out of an aircraft flying at an altitude of about 4000 meters. They free short period until a specific altitude when they activate the parachute and cause their speed to decelerate land. Cords are used to control direction and speed, so they are able to land at a
Together with the rise of its popularity is the invention of its many designs, all to make the safer to use. The key is to slow down the opening of the chute and minimize oscillations jerk that parachutists often feel during descend. To allow more control, holes and slots are added to with the many different uses come different designs as well. There are designs for high speed and cargo and sport jumping. Parafoils are also added to provide ease in "flying."
Usually, first-time skydivers are strapped together with a professional or experienced skydiver, who activates and controls the parachute. But after experiencing a few jumps flying skills, you’ll have the courage to jump on your own until you are hooked with the sport.
The sport dangerous, but surprisingly, there are lesser fatalities now. With innovations and safety measures adopted in the US and in most parts of the world, fewer deaths and accidents have occurred in the past years. Among the safety measures is

Thanks for the realist Esther Dyson. Parachuting luminaries into Russia who appear to have little knowledge of the country (except Dyson) achieves nothing. What it takes is building, over time, a relationship of mutual trust and respect based on each side having an intimate understanding of challenges faced and a willingness to make long term commitments.
As a teenager I grew up in one of the most progressive radio/music environs on the planet, SF bay area. Had not heard of Free, surprizingly. Ponied up door fare at a crowded little dive bar up in Edinborough, Scotland one night, summer of ’69. The band was Free. I was blown away by their overall sound, kinda sparse, simple but soooo packed with emotion. I thought I’d discovered the next Cream or Yardbirds or something. Meanwhile “ARN” had exploded on the air back home. News travels quick.
Great to hear the race is a state championship. I have a BetterRide “race” camp scheduled for the race too. This isn't one of my skills camps but a race prep camp where racers learn how to practice, mentally prepare, find the pro lines and race at their best on Sunday.
Good composition. I love great sky shots like this one. Colors of the sky are captured well. However, foreground is a bit under by maybe half or full stop. Greens are not as lively as the blues of the sky. We are usually faced with this dilemma of having to chose which to expose correctly, the sky or the foreground.
From the Foreground also, its difficult to identify what the subject is.
Just imagine how the sky would look like in HDR…Wow…
I mean seriously people… Rats have been able to swim before humans probably could. They can handle (even deeper) diving than this. What's more fun to see than two rats having fun swimming a couple of minutes and chasing treats? Good exercise!
I think you're right. The concept of Chi is just a mind game, but don't tell that to most of the Asian world. They really believe that there is some sort "magic" energy that a person can harness and use to perform super human feats. Personally I think they have watched too many of their own movies and are starting to believe them.
For example, for humans, out of the 20 amino acids used in proteins, 8 are considered "essential amino acids", that is the body cannot synthesize them, they must be present in the diet.

If Oz were still on, they totally would have worked the baseball steroid scandal into their storylines. Jose Conseco would probably be the actor.
Mark Cuban is annoying. He's also a jerk because he didn't add me as a friend on Facebook. Annoying jerk.
I missed the Dallas/SA game because I was at the Oilers game. I never thought in my life that I'd write that sentence, but there it is.
